Building a Professional Network

Building connections with professors, alumni and industry professionals can provide insights into various career paths, lead to internships or mentorships, and offer insider knowledge about specific fields. These relationships can become a powerful support system, offering guidance and advice as students navigate their academic and professional journeys.

LinkedIn has become an industry standard networking tool and all students should create a free LinkedIn Profile. Start connecting with classmates, professors and co-workers to build a network in your desired field and beyond. Additionally, individuals can learn about the more than 58 million companies listed on LinkedIn today along with thousands of job posting each day around the world.

It is important to build and foster a network early in your college career — though it is never too late to start!! Doing so allows individuals to stay up to date on industry trends, learn about upcoming job opportunities and gain references that can be used in the job application process. As you meet new people, connect with them on LinkedIn and soon you will see your network grow and flourish.

Don’t forget to follow Career Services on LinkedIn and stay up to date on all of our latest opportunities.
