Preparing for an Interview
Kean Career Services supports students as they get ready to interview for internships and full-time roles. Students can also access VMock.com anytime, 24/7, to practice mock interviews virtually on demand, get instant feedback, and build confidence before an in-person interview.
Career Advisors are available to conduct practice interviews in both one-on-one appointments and during regular drop-in hours. Students will practice answering general and behavioral questions and practice their personal pitch.
When preparing for interviews, it’s important to think about these topics to best prepare:
- Do Your Research: Understand the company’s mission, any current news and the role requirements.
- Prepare Interview Responses: Use the S.T.A.R. method to help formulate your responses. Practice answering “tell me about yourself” and your elevator pitch.
- Anticipate Common Questions: Review lists of common behavioral and situational interview questions and be prepared to discuss in the interview.
- Practice, Practice, Practice: Conduct mock interviews with Career Advisors or industry support to refine your responses.
- Prepare Logistics: Be sure to dress professionally in alignment with the industry you are considering. Plan travel and print out your resume! Be sure to BE EARLY.
- Be Sure to Follow Up: Send thank-you notes to all interviewers.
